Volunteering at The Learning Ally

Standard

So, this past month I have been volunteering weekly at the Learning Ally. It’s a great organization that records texts for students. Their mission, “is to promote personal achievement when access and reading are barriers to learning by advancing the use of accessible and effective educational solutions.”

Today, I finally was able to record my own voice reading a glossary of a text! It was a new experience, exciting and nerve-wracking. I’d do it again, but not before I practiced. It’s an interesting skill, reading aloud…without messing up words, without seeing the copy beforehand. I sorta see how news anchors feel. Especially, America’s favorite anchorman… Ron Burgundy.

All things require practice, and patience. And in the end, it is not about my reading, it is about making sure those who need the texts, get them. So next week, I’ll be back, helping out it whatever capacity I’m needed!
